WELCOME TO PLYMOUTH YACHT HAVEN
Plymouth Yacht Haven is located on the historic Mount Batten peninsula. From
1917 until recently, Mount Batten was in the hands of the RAF, gaining worldwide
fame during the Second World War as a base for flying boats.
Located in Clovelly Bay, at the mouth of the Cattewater, the marina is sheltered
from the prevailing south westerly winds yet is only minutes from one of England's
finest natural harbours, Plymouth Sound. From here the choice is yours, a day's
sailing to Salcombe, Fowey, Torquay or Dartmouth; a longer passage taking in
Falmouth, Penzance and on to the Isles of Scilly; the Channel Islands or to
the north and west coast of France. Deep water throughout the marina allows
freedom at all states of tide. In rough weather, Plymouth Sound and local rivers
allow for hours of sheltered scenic sailing.
Within easy reach of the marina are many beautiful coastal walks, a golf course
and, just a short stroll away, a fitness centre with a heated swimming pool.
Also available is a water taxi to take berth holders to a multitude of shops,
restaurants, bars and nightlife to enjoy within the historic atmosphere in
the cobbled streets of the Barbican.
A short walk across Plymouth Hoe gives access to one of the major shopping
centres in the southwest along with a host of tourist attractions for those
days when sailing is not an option.
The new marina has berths for 450 vessels with a mixture of finger and alongside
berths. It is possible for us to cater for vessels up to 45 metres in length
and 7 metres in draft. All berths offer electricity and water services. Visitors
are welcome at any time. Please call on VHF channels 37 and 80 - Plymouth Yacht
Haven. Our friendly and helpful staff provide cover for the marina 24 hours
a day.
Visiting boats are welcome at Plymouth Yacht Haven where space permits. Please
telephone or call on channel 37 or 80 to request a berth. Berthing is payable
in advance and berths should be vacated by noon on the day of departure. You
will need the present day's gate code to re-enter the marina.
HOW TO GET HERE
BY ROAD:
From A38 follow signs to Plymouth City centre, turning off the A38 at roundabout.
Take the A374. After about 1/2 mile get in the right hand lane in order to
take the road for Kingsbridge (A379). This takes you across Laira Bridge where
you will see the first signs for Mount Batten and Turnchapel.
After the bridge, at the first roundabout, turn right then carry straight on
until you arrive at a set of traffic lights. Turn right and then go straight
through the second set of lights. Keep on this road (approx 11/2 miles) until
you come to a roundabout.
Turn right into Plymouth Yacht Haven.
BY SEA:
Plymouth Sound can be entered via the Western or Eastern channels which are
well lit and buoyed with no real hazards. There is not less than 3.7 metres
of depth at MLWS and therefore navigable by most yachts at all states of tide.
Head for the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club situated on Plymouth Hoe. Once the
Mount Batten Breakwater is passed to starboard, follow the Cattewater channel,
where you will see Plymouth Yacht Haven on your starboard side.
The visitor pontoon is clearly marked at the western end. If you require a
berth this can be allocated over the VHF or telephone.
