The village
of Ballachulish, formerly known as Laroch, lies on the south side of Loch
Leven to the west of Glen Coe. It comprises of Ballachulish, South
Ballachulish and North Ballachulish. The murder that happened in the South
Ballachulish villages was used as the basis for Robert Lewis Stevenson's novel "Kidnapped".
North Ballachulish is a little more developed and is home to a confectionery
factory. The largest settlement carrying the name of Ballachulish lies on the
south side of Loch Leven, a mile or so west of the village of Glen Coe.
