The design parameters, such as medium displacement, reduced
wetted area, greater waterline length, efficient sail plan and performance
orientated keel and rudder profiles are very similar to that of thoroughbred
racing yachts. However, in line with the Grand Soleil philosophy, the interior
and the fittings have been designed and developed to encourage comfortable
cruising.
The deck plan, while remaining neat and straightforward, has been characterized
by ergonomic principles, typical of racing boats. The cockpit seats tend
to open astern, leaving large space both for main track and crew. The saloon
entrance is placed forward with respect to the coachroof aft end, giving
room to the halyards and spinnaker trimmers.
The boat is built on a female-mould with multiaxial glassfiber fabrics, hand
laminated with vinylesther resins for the first coats.
As for the appendages, we adopted a blade rudder with high extension ratio,
and a lead keel for the racing version; this keel is the result of the most
recent hydrodynamic studies, which have been carried out by the responsible
of the aerodynamics department of Ferrari Formula 1.
The interior is the result of the renewed collaboration with Patrick Roséo,
engaged since 1983 in the interior design of the Grand Soleil boats. Up to
four layouts are offered to satisfy at the most all requirements. The deck
fittings are supplied by Harken, hatches and portholes by Lewmar and Goiot,
while the mast, rigging and halyards by Sparcraft. Engine is by Volvo Penta
